Gluten-Free and Dairy-Free Red, White, and Blue Trifle

Happy 4th of July from the Chefs Committee! This recipe was given by Shae!


Allergy Information: Free from wheat, dairy, soy, fish, shellfish, sesame, and peanuts.

Note from Shae: My mom and I love making trifles. They are so easy to make and you can pretty much add any ingredients that you want. Our favorite is a chocolate brownie trifle, but for the Fourth of July, we love making our red, white, and blue trifle. It has layers of GF vanilla cake, DF cool whip, DF vanilla pudding, strawberries, and blueberries. So delicious and a great dessert to bring to any picnic.

Ingredients:

  • Favorite vanilla pudding, I used this DF recipe:

    • 2 cups of unsweetened almond milk

    • 2 egg yolks

    • 2 ½ tbsp of sugar

    • ⅛ tsp of salt

    • 2 tsp of vanilla extract

    • 2 ½ tbsp of cornstarch

    • 1 tsp of DF butter

  • Favorite GF vanilla cake mix, I always use Hungry Harry’s yellow cake mix but I didn’t have any in my pantry, so I used Hungry Harry’s muffin mix and it still tasted amazing.

  • So Delicious DF coco whip

  • Fresh strawberries

  • Fresh blueberries


Directions/Steps:

  1. Prepare vanilla cake, bake and let cool

  2. Prepare pudding and allow to set in fridge for 2 hours

  3. After pudding sets, remove from fridge and set aside

  4. Cut cake into small pieces (you can break it apart also)

  5. Slice strawberries

  6. Start layering the ingredients

  7. First layer: Vanilla cake

  8. Second Layer: DF coco whip

  9. Third layer: Strawberries

  10. Fourth layer: DF vanilla pudding

  11. Fifth layer: Blueberries

  12. Sixth layer: DF coco whip

  13. Repeat steps until you get to the top of the bowl or trifle dish

  14. Lastly, top with a layer of DF coco whip and decorate with fruit

My name is Shae Averaimo. I live in Milford, Connecticut. I am 14 years old and going into my freshman year of high school. I am allergic to dairy. I love cooking and baking. My favorite subject at school is science. In my free time, I love going to the beach. One fun fact about me is that I got the opportunity to swim with dolphins in Hawaii.
